Collaboration Schedule Begins This Week - Wednesday, September 1st, will begin the Collaboration Schedule.  There will be no zero period on Wednesdays.  The first bell will ring at 8:35am.  First period will begin at 8:45am.

 

Picture Retakes - Students and staff who did not get their picture taken last week may do so on Wednesday, September 1st. Retakes will be in the Science Lecture Hall.

 

Ag Boosters Meeting - This Wednesday, September 1st, 6:30pm in the Science Lecture Hall.  FFA meeting immediately following.

 

Emerald Regime Marching Band & Color Guard Parent Meeting - This Wednesday, September 1st, 7:30pm, in the Library.  Parents of all Marching Band and Color Guard students need to attend this annual informational meeting.  You will receive a packet containing materials explaining the program and forms requiring signatures.  The 2010-2011 Booster Board will be available to answer any questions you may have.  We look forward to meeting everyone and are delighted to jump into a new and rewarding marching season.

 

Freshman ASB Candidates - If you are interested in being an ASB officer, please pick up a position packet in the ASB office this week.  They need to be completed and turned in by Friday.

 

Senior BBQ Lunch - This Friday, September 3rd, at lunch.  Bring $1 and your ID card. 

 

Live Oak Cross Country - Live Oak Coed Cross Country is looking for a few more ladies to come out and join the team  See Mr. Sumpter in Room 301 or join us at 3:30pm on the track next to the snack shack. 

 

Water Polo - We need players both male and female to become part of the Live Oak High Water Polo Teams.  Please come out on the pool deck any day this week after school.

El Toro Bowl IV - Mark your calendars for the El Toro Bowl, Friday, September 17th.  Go Nuts!

 

El Toro Bowl IV Apparel Pre-Orders - Order Shirts or Sweatshirts for the big game.  Order form available online (download the order form) or in the ASB office.  Orders are due by Wednesday, September 8th, 3pm.  Proceeds from the shirts will go toward Grad Night 2011.  Shirts will be ready for pick up before the game.  Questions: ElToroBowlShirts@yahoo.com

Parking Permits - Don’t forget to stop by ASB to pick up your parking permit form.  Parking is $45.00 for general parking and $70.00 for Senior Reserved.  Students MUST have a valid 2010 permit to park in the student lot.  We will start checking for illegal parking very soon, so do not use the parking lot unless you have a valid permit in view!  Do not park in a Senior Reserved spot unless it is yours!  Illegally parked cars will be ticketed.

Yearbooks - Yearbooks for the 2010-2011 school year are now on sale.  Get yours now for $80.00 with ASB.  The price will go up so don’t wait!  Stop by ASB to purchase a copy of the memories you are making this year!

Lost and Found - Just, a reminder that the school Lost and Found is in the ASB office.  We still have keys, jewelry and a few electronics from last year.  Come by ASB to identify.

Paintball Club - Hey Live Oak! Like paint?  How about Sobrato? Well, Paintball Club will be playing Sobrato this year and we need players.  So come on down to Room 403 during lunch on Wednesday Sept.1  See you there!

School Site Council Elections - We are looking for parents to participate in Live Oak’s School Site council.  You will collaborate monthly with a small group of staff, parents and students in reviewing and refining school plans.  For more details, including an application form, go to School Site Council.  Elections will be held at Back-to-School night.

 

Back-to-School Night – Was tentatively scheduled for September 9th, 6:30pm, but the date will be changing.  Be sure to check the next newsletter for the new night.

 

eScrip Annual Renewal - Please be sure to update your eScrip and remember you can allocate your contributions to 1-3 schools.  Please remember that at the high school level, most fundraisers are for our wonderful booster organization (Ag. Athletics & Band) and not for the students education or classroom experience.

 

Online Access to Student Grades - We are in the process of implementing a new system called School+.  This will replace SnapGrades.  Part of this system is a new on-line grading application called Grade Book.  Watch upcoming newsletters for more information on accessing on-line grades and homework assignments.

 

Live Oak Website - All information provided in these emails is also available on the Live Oak website, www.liveoak.mhu.k12.ca.us.  Take some time to familiarize yourself with the website.  Here’s an overview:

-          Highlights – on the home page:  Items of particular current interest.  There is also always a link to the Student Daily Bulletin (information broadcast at LO each morning).  There will also always be a link to the Weekly Newsletter, and a link to add a new email address to the electronic distribution list.

-          Athletics:  The “Sports Directory” contains current schedules and coach contact information.  It will also contain links to photos and articles as the season proceeds.  “Driving Directions” can be printed to direct you from Live Oak to any away games.  Also permission forms, an athletics photo gallery, eligibility information, etc.

-          Directory.  Staff Directory, including links (if available) to  homework, teacher phone numbers, room numbers, and email links

-          Calendar.  Month-to-month events of interest to students, taking place either at LO or in the community.  Note that athletics schedules are NOT included here … go to the Sports Directory.

-          Guidance.  Choose a subject from the left menu, such as graduation requirements, 4-year plan suggestions, Cal Soap, college information, scholarships and other financial aid, testing schedules and descriptions, and more.

-          Academics.  A comprehensive description of classes offered at LO.  Check out the menu on the left for many additional academic topics.

-          Student Activities.  Campus information of particular information to students--ASB, Emerald Regime website link, clubs, spirit wear catalog, photos of student activities, acorn clip art, acorn achievements, …

-          Parent Support.  Overviews of the many parent support organizations at LO, contact information, membership forms, meeting minutes, and suggestions for how to get involved.

-          About Live Oak. Anything else you would ever want to know:  principal’s message, policies and procedures, bell schedules, Alumni website link, school maps, etc.

-          We’ve also added a new Site Index & Map at the bottom of the “Highlights” on the home page.  This gives you both an overview of the main components of the website and an alphabetic listing of information available (in case you can’t find something).
